A state-of-the-art terminal replaced the original structure that served the community since 1948 without interrupting its operation. The new terminal has a unique energy efficient contemporary form designed to highlight Lycoming County’s signature logging history and to accommodate a second carrier.

The pallet was limited to high performance glass, stone, and exposed steel super structure. The building form allows generous controlled natural light into all public spaces. Large sunlit windows and tall exposed wood decked ceilings create a modern, spacious atmosphere.

The community has access to the airports large multi-purpose boardroom designed to be used as conference or classroom space, seating 45. It is supported by a small kitchenette and restrooms. The remaining administrative wing houses staff offices, storage, and a ready-room for emergency personnel.

The open floor plan is accentuated with light gray tiled flooring cut with a fluid wayfinding pathway of multi-shaded blue tiles designed to replicate the Susquehanna River, which was a major economic influence in the Region.

The terminal’s design takes its clue from the simple airplane wing. This same parti is seen again in the sweeping form of the glass canopy. The sawtooth allows a glimpse of incoming and outgoing aircraft while allowing controlled natural light to penetrate the terminal.

In the late 19th century, Williamsport was known as "The Lumber Capital of the World". Wooden members infill the webs of the steel frame with exposed fasteners, that establishes a second rhythm throughout the terminal. This detail leads the eye upward to the sawtooth roof line through the main circulation of the terminal, while celebrating the community and its natural resources.

The new facility efficiently processes increased passenger traffic through the building. Meeting FAA, Penn DOT’s Bureau of Aviation, National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) and TSA requirements were also critical for this project.

The southern façade facing the runway is lined with windows to provide views of the airplanes and the scenic mountains.

The Authority received a one million dollar grant from the local Community Foundation Partnership as the new terminal is a high impact project which will enhance the quality of life for Lycoming County residents.
